Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Directory For USA ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and shares information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your name, email address and password when you sign up, and any details you add later such as a phone number, state or city. We store passwords only in a protected (hashed) form.
- Business listing information. If you add or manage a listing: business name, category, description, address, phone, email, website, opening hours, services, payment methods, photos and logos. Listing information is meant to be public and is shown on the Service.
- Reviews and replies. The reviews you write, your rating and any replies an owner posts. Reviews are public and show your display name.
- Reports. If you report a review, the reason and any details you add.
- Claims. When you claim a listing, the email address the verification code is sent to and the result of the claim.
- Messages to businesses. When you send a message through a listing, the name, contact details and message you enter.
- Messages to us. What you send through our contact form.
- Advertising. If you buy an ad: the banner image, link, ad spot and campaign dates.
- Payment records. For plans, claims and ads: what you bought, the amount, the date and the payment reference. Payments are processed by PayPal, including card payments. Your card or PayPal account details are handled by PayPal, and we never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically
- Visit counting. To count visitors to the site and views of each listing, we create a daily identifier by hashing (one-way scrambling) technical details of your visit, such as your IP address and browser type, together with the date. We keep only the hash, for about 24 hours, so a person is counted once per day. Known bots and automated tools are not counted.
- Ad statistics. We count how often ads are shown and clicked, excluding known bots, so advertisers can see how their ads perform.
- Technical information. Like most websites, our servers and service providers may log technical information such as IP address, browser and device type, and pages requested, to keep the Service secure and working.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See section 3 and our Cookie Policy.
2. How we use information
- To provide the Service: run your account, publish listings and reviews, deliver your messages to businesses and process purchases.
- To confirm your email address, verify claims and send you messages about your account, such as password resets, claim codes, receipts and a reminder before a plan ends.
- To keep the Service safe: check new listings and reviews for spam and duplicates, block automated abuse, act on reports and enforce our Terms of Use.
- To show owners and advertisers statistics such as listing views, ad views and clicks.
- To understand how the Service is used and improve it.
- To comply with the law and protect our rights and the rights of others.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
- Sign-in cookie. When you sign in, we set a cookie that keeps you signed in. Your basic profile is also kept in your browser's local storage so pages load faster. Both are removed when you sign out.
- "Hide ad" choice. If you hide an ad, your browser remembers that choice for the current browsing session.
- Cloudflare Turnstile. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Cloudflare may process technical information about your browser and device for this purpose.
- Google AdSense. If ads from Google are enabled on the Service, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads and measure them, which can include ads based on your interests. You can manage personalized ads in your Google ad settings.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. If you block the sign-in cookie, you won't be able to stay signed in.
4. How we share information
- Publicly. Listings, reviews, owner replies and your display name on reviews are visible to visitors of the Service.
- With businesses you contact. When you send a message to a business, that business receives your message and the contact details you entered.
- With service providers who help us run the Service, under instructions to protect the information and use it only for that work: payment processing (PayPal), email delivery, hosting and storage, and spam protection (Cloudflare). If ads from Google are enabled, Google receives information as described in section 3.
- For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith that sharing is needed to comply with the law or a legal request, to enforce our terms, or to protect the safety, rights or property of anyone.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale of assets, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
- With your consent, or at your direction.
5. How long we keep information
We keep account information for as long as your account is open. Listings, reviews and replies stay on the Service until they are removed by you, by the owner where allowed, or by us. We keep payment records for as long as needed for accounting, tax and legal purposes. Daily visit identifiers are kept for about 24 hours. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or keep it in a form that no longer identifies you.
6. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, such as encrypted connections and hashed passwords. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep it to yourself.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and update. You can see and change your account details in your account settings, and owners can edit their listings in their dashboard.
- Delete. You can ask us to delete your account or a review you wrote by contacting us.
- Emails. Some emails, such as password resets, receipts and plan reminders, are part of the Service and can't be turned off while you have an account.
- Cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
US state privacy rights
Depending on where you live, including California and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it, to access or get a copy of it, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of the sale of personal information or its use for targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information. If ads from Google are enabled, you can turn off interest-based ads from Google in your Google ad settings. We won't treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, contact us. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on it, for example by asking you to write from the email address on your account. You can also use an authorized agent where the law allows it. If we deny your request, you may be able to appeal by contacting us again.
8. Children
The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Links to other sites
Listings and ads link to websites we don't control. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we may also let you know by email or on the Service. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
11. Contact us
